What is your role at P C Henderson?

Production Worker

How did you come to work at P C Henderson and how long have you worked here?

I worked for the Garage Door side of the business for 6 months when I first started. The role of Production Worker came up which I successfully applied for, I’ve now been here for 9 years.

What does your role entail?

I specialise in the assembly, packing and shipment of our flagship product, Securefold. This involves everything from packing the components, labelling the products and ensuring the correct fitting instructions are packed – right through to inspecting the quality of the finished goods and preparing them for distribution.

Securefold is one of our most versatile products due to its different finishes, hinge options and door configurations so it’s essential that I understand both the structure and function of all of the components when working on the assembly line. Our Research and Development department provide in depth training whenever changes are made to an existing product or when a new product is launched so that I am always up to date.

What are the main challenges associated with your role?

The main challenge would be keeping up with customer demand – Securefold is one of our most popular products, so orders for these items are frequent and large.

It’s my job to make sure we avoid stock shortages and orders go out on time – I set myself strict deadlines and work closely with our Planning Department to make sure this runs smoothly.

Do you have any other roles within the company?

Yes. I am also a Health and Safety representative for P C Henderson, having undertaken a Level 3 Workplace Health and Safety course on the company’s behalf. This means I am responsible for ensuring the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) across the factory and communicate any incidents or concerns to our Managing Director, Trevor Cossins. I’m also a First Aider for which I am put through a certified course every three years.

What is a typical day in the factory like for you?

Very busy! Each day is different depending on the number and size of customer orders.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

The people I work with are great, I love being part of a team and we work together very well. Management have also been very helpful and understanding whenever I’ve needed any assistance both in and outside of work.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Spending time with my family and my lovely dog – Oscar.
